2018 theme announced

On Tuesday 17th October the corridors of the Oakwood Centre in Woodley shook with the sound of marching stormtroopers and other famous characters as Woodley Community Carnival launched its 2018 theme of Heroes and villains. The evening was well attended by over 60 people, made up of school representatives, local businesses, interested groups and charities.

The evening was introduced by Carnival chairman Peter Jacobs who welcomed everyone and explained that the carnival is organised by unpaid local volunteers, urging the people of woodley to get involved in next years event in a variety of ways.

The assembled group watched a fabulous short video of 2017 carnival highlights then listened to a presentation about opportunities for sponsorship and getting involved with the procession or on the day by having a stall on the field.

Last year the carnival supported 4 local charities, WADE, Woodley food bank, Woodley First responders and the Wokingham Link Visiting Scheme, a cheque for £2000 was presented to each charity. Jackie Wilson from Wade thanked the committee and told the audience that £2000 "would make a considerable difference to the charity”. If you would like to nominate a charity to be considered as one of the Carnivals 2018 good causes then go to the beneficiaries section of the website.

The 2018 event to be held on Saturday 9th June was then officially launched by a surprise visit from Darth Vader and his stormtroopers, Greedo, Kylo and Judge Dredd provided by UK Garrison. The younger members of the audience along with chairman Mr Jacobs took the opportunity to grab some pics with the visitors. The evening came to a close with the assembled guests being reminded of the next carnival event, the very popular quiz night which is being held on November the 24th 2017.
