Woodley Carnival 2010

Among the attractions at this year’s 50th Carnival was the customary carnival procession, a bungee trampoline, arts and crafts stalls and fairground rides.

The Carnival Queens lead our biggest procession in years through the Town. 35 floats took part and our Judges awarded best floats in 4 categories. Best Voluntary Organisation Cup was awarded to Age Concern, best Youth Cup was awarded to Southlake School, best Business Cup was awarded to Woodley Autos and best Walking cup was awarded to Unique Gardens.  A very big thank-you to everyone that entered a float this year.

New to the carnival this year was a marquee showcasing the work and diversity of local clubs and organisations in the town. Another popular attraction, The Sheep Show, returned following a three-year absence and Circus Scene held continuous clown and balloon workshops throughout the day.

The event this year was all about rolling back the years and having a good time. The weather was fantastic and we had a lot of stalls. The best dressed charity stall was awarded to Woodley Churches Together and best dressed Trade Stall was awarded to German Events a wonderful sweet stall!!

Entry to the carnival was free this year as we wanted the carnival itself to be an event for all the family to enjoy. Woodley is still very much a community on its own, it is not in the heart of Reading and is not in the heart of Wokingham, and the carnival helps keep the community spirit together.
This year we saw the return of our arena.  The Jeannine Greville Dance Academies performed throughout the afternoon Jeannine Greville Dance Academies website along with Cloudglider who performed a 60's medley for us. Cloudglider website

The RASPO Orchestra returned to give a truly carnival feel.  Made up of mainly young musicians ranging in age from twelve to late teens they regularly play at festivals and carnivals. RASPO website

We also welcomed back the Woodley Concert Band who performed throughout the afternoon with their lively and exciting performances. Woodley Concert Band website

We thank those residents who attended public meetings held by the committee to help put together the event. It was always the committee’s intention to do something special this year.

The carnival is a registered charity and any profit made it returned to local charities. We thank everyone who helped make the 50th Woodley Carnival a great success and hope to see you on Saturday 11th June 2011 for the 51st Woodley Carnival.
